Bankers

Had they any sense of history they would know
that deals so good are never true, that wealth
based on paper and promises will wither:
had they any sense of history they would know
that gamblers always lose in the end and the
casino ends up with all the goods, and if bankers
become gamblers they will become bankrupt;
had they any sense of history they would know
that bubbles will burst, wealth not earned becomes
deflated air with debris scattered over a scorched
landscape, but they had no sense of history, they
were the kings of the universe, they had figured
the odds, they were immune, and now,—
they have destroyed their banks
as well as our economy,
as well as our well being.

Had we any sense of history
we would not bail them out
we would round them up
collect their ill-gotten gains
garnish their bonuses
strip off their self satisfied smiles
and string them up.
